New Volkswagen Amarok features, engines, and 2022 release date revealed

The all-new Volkswagen Amarok has finally been revealed after months of apparently constant teasing. This new pickup model has nothing in common with the current Amarok, which has been on the market since 2010, and instead shares its platform with the spanking new Ford Ranger. There are two bodystyles to choose from: single or double cab, and all models purchased in the UK will be equipped with all-wheel drive.

Pricing for this new model has yet to be announced, but we estimate the VW to be somewhat more expensive than its Ford counterpart when both vans go on sale. The Volkswagen Amararok is one of a limited number of new pick-up trucks available in the UK, with competitors including the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max.

Regardless of its all-new underpinnings, the 2019 Volkswagen Amarok appears to be a lot like the outgoing model. There are some subtle changes, such as a smaller front grille and a new signature for the daytime operating lights.

Comparisons may also be made on the back, but this time with the Amarok’s mechanical sister, the Ford Ranger. The Amarok will receive a nearly identical pair of C-shaped vertical taillights, with LED technology on higher-end models.
